The challenge
R2M Business Group operates across locations in Australia and other regions, and needed a consistent security foundation that could protect network traffic and endpoints across a genuinely distributed environment. The requirements were practical: apply consistent network security controls across every site, improve protection against malware and suspicious endpoint activity, separate business, wireless, management and CCTV traffic where required, and build stronger monitoring, reporting and response processes, all without disrupting day-to-day operations.
The solution
909 IT Solutions delivered a layered security solution combining FortiGate next-generation firewall capability with CrowdStrike Falcon endpoint protection. The deployment included a FortiGate 50G firewall and two Cisco CBS350 distribution switches for network-level control, with CrowdStrike licensed for 50 users and the endpoint agent installed across 45 hosts.
On the network side, firewall policies, routing, VLAN segmentation, NAT and controlled management access were configured alongside antivirus, web and DNS filtering, application control, intrusion prevention and SSL/SSH inspection. On the endpoint side, CrowdStrike provided continuous monitoring, detection, prevention, asset visibility and centralised policy management. Local and cloud-based firewall logs were brought together with endpoint dashboards and alerts to give the business one place to monitor both layers.
Every stage, from firewall and security profile configuration through to endpoint protection, was tested and verified before it went into production, so the new controls could be rolled out without disrupting the business.
The result
R2M Business Group now has a documented, repeatable security baseline that works the same way at every site: network and endpoint controls operating together, consistent policy across a distributed footprint, and central dashboards giving the team real visibility instead of having to check each location separately. The environment was integrated without disruption, with routing, monitoring and update mechanisms aligned to the requirements the project was built against.
